Schwinn Black Phantom

Set against the backdrop of the 1949 polio epidemic, the story follows Warren Hearst, who faces the challenges of his new reality after losing the ability to play sports and ride his bike. Confined to a blanket in his family's station wagon on the way to a hospital in Omaha, Warren feels trapped and contemplates running away. His plans take an unexpected turn when he encounters Whitey, an assertive boy from his new neighborhood, leading to an unlikely friendship that may change his perspective on life and his circumstances.
