Clara Louise Burnham was a prolific American novelist known for her works such as No Gentlemen and A Sane Lunatic, among others. She was the daughter of composer George Frederick Root and contributed lyrics to several of his cantatas. Her literary career spanned from the 1880s to the early 1900s, culminating in the 1923 film adaptation of her novel Jewel: A Chapter in Her Life. Born in Massachusetts, Burnham spent her later years in Maine, where she passed away in 1927.
