More about the book
Growing up near London's docks, William Wymark Jacobs drew inspiration from his surroundings, which became a recurring theme in his writing. He transitioned from a clerical job to a celebrated author, known for his sea-faring tales and vibrant characters, beginning with "Many Cargoes." His works, including "At Sunwich Port" and "Captain's All," showcased his talent for authentic dialogue and twist endings. Married to suffragist Agnes Eleanor Williams, Jacobs became a prominent humorist by the early 20th century, remaining influential until his death in 1943.
