Set in August 1745, the narrative follows Charles Edward Stuart's bold attempt to reclaim the Scottish throne, rallying Highland clansmen and a few Lowlanders to his Jacobite cause. Among them is Patrick Lindesay, an impoverished farmer unexpectedly commissioned as an officer. He serves as Keeper of the Royal Wardrobe for Bonnie Prince Charlie and leads the unique Jacobite Horse Grenadiers, possibly the smallest regiment in British history. The story explores themes of loyalty, ambition, and the complexities of rebellion during a tumultuous period.
