More about the book

Born in 1754, George Crabbe developed a passion for literature early on, leading him to pursue a dual career in medicine and poetry. After winning a prize for a poem in 1772, he published his first major work, Inebriety, in 1775. Despite financial struggles and limited surgical success, he gained acclaim with his poem The Village in 1783. Crabbe’s later works, including the celebrated Tales, solidified his reputation as a significant poet. His personal life was marked by tragedy, including the death of his wife, Sarah, before his own passing in 1832.
