More about the book

The study investigates the impact of stringent environmental legislation on the competitiveness of German plants through three case studies. It reveals that abatement initiatives were generally implemented without harming economic performance and did not affect core business operations. Environmental pressure was ranked as less significant compared to other competitive factors, and low compliance costs in two cases indicated that such regulations do not greatly influence competitiveness. Interestingly, even plants with lower productivity levels managed to cope with high compliance costs.
