More about the book

Inspired by medieval traditions, this piano concerto revives the practice of composing music structured around the Rosary, echoing Heinrich Biber's "Rosary Sonatas." It features five meditations known as the "Luminous Mysteries," introduced by Pope John Paul II in 2002. While rooted in religious themes, the work is characterized as dramatic, aligning more closely with the concept of a symphonic poem than a solemn piece. Commissioned by Osmo Vänskä and the Minnesota Orchestra for their centennial, it premiered in April 2011 with pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet.
