Margaret Oliphant Wilson's life was marked by both literary achievement and personal tragedy. Born in 1828, she published her first novel by age 21 and established a successful writing career while facing the loss of three children in infancy and the death of her husband from tuberculosis. Despite her grief, she supported her remaining children through her writing. Over thirty years, she produced a significant body of work but continued to suffer personal losses, including the deaths of her two remaining sons. She passed away in 1897, leaving a legacy as a prolific author.
