Set against the backdrop of ancient Germania, the narrative is conveyed through the ghost of Adalhard, a Germanic warrior. It explores the historical encounters between Germanic tribes and Romans, detailing Rome's attempts to conquer these tribes and the pivotal Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, where three Roman legions were lost. The story also follows Thusnelda, a betrayed woman who becomes a slave while pregnant, and her son, who rises as a gladiator, achieving fame in the arena.
