The Budapest Operation

Focusing on the Red Army's strategic operations during the siege of Budapest from October 1944 to February 1945, this study details their advance into Hungary following earlier successes in Eastern Europe. It highlights the fierce German-Hungarian resistance that stalled the Soviet push, the encirclement of the city, and the subsequent German counter-offensives. The analysis includes the role of various combat arms and emphasizes the Third Ukrainian Front's crucial yet initially secondary role, ultimately contributing to the Soviet victory and the surrender of the Budapest garrison.
