George Chapman - Bussy D'Ambois: "Ignorance is the mother of admiration"

More about the book

George Chapman, born around 1559 in Hertfordshire, had a diverse career as a poet, playwright, and translator. His early works include philosophical poems and he gained prominence in the late 1590s as a successful playwright. Notably, he produced the first complete English translation of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, which became widely popular. Collaborating with Ben Jonson, Chapman faced controversy and imprisonment for satirical content in their play. Despite his literary achievements, he struggled financially in his later years, passing away in 1634.
