Gender and the Path to Awakening

Focusing on the experiences of female practitioners in modern Thai Buddhism, this work explores the complexities of female renunciation over the past 140 years. Through extensive research on six notable women, it examines evolving practices, the concept of female sainthood, and the interplay of material culture and oral traditions in Thai Buddhist knowledge. The author highlights how these elements shape the understanding and representation of women within the spiritual landscape of Thai Buddhism.
