More about the book

Margaret Oliphant Wilson's life was marked by both literary achievement and profound personal tragedy. After publishing her first novel in 1849, she navigated a successful writing career while raising six children, three of whom died in infancy. Following the death of her husband from tuberculosis, she became the sole provider for her remaining children through her writing. Despite her prolific output, she faced continued heartbreak with the loss of her daughter and two sons. Oliphant's health declined, and she passed away in 1897, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and literary contribution.
