The narrative follows a woman's harrowing journey of survival during the Holocaust and her subsequent search for her lost children in post-war Poland. In 1948, she discovers they are in America and, driven by desperation, joins a secret underground group to escape to Sweden. However, her plans are thwarted when she is captured by border patrol and imprisoned. Unbeknownst to her family in America, years of struggle and separation ensue before she finally reunites with her husband and children.
