The Political Economy of Higher Education Finance

The book examines the political economy of higher education finance in OECD countries, revealing the disparities in tuition fees and their redistributional effects. It identifies four distinct systems of student finance that have emerged since the 1940s, despite a similar historical background. The author introduces the Time-Sensitive Partisan Theory to explain this evolution. Through comprehensive empirical analyses, the study covers higher education policies from 1945 to 2015, combining qualitative and quantitative evidence to illustrate these changes across advanced democracies.
