A young Channel Island vixen named Shimji embarks on an adventurous journey to discover her ancestral homeland. With the help of Malibu, a sea lion, and Topanga, a seagull, she stows away on a boat to the California coast. Throughout her exploration, Shimji befriends various animals, learning from their diverse experiences. However, her desire to return home is challenged when scientists discover her and plan to send her to a zoo. The story unfolds as Shimji seeks a way to escape and reunite with her island home.
