Enduring Violence: Everyday Life and Conflict in Eastern Sri Lanka

Set against the backdrop of Sri Lanka's eastern province, this ethnography delves into the lives of Tamil-speaking communities in Batticaloa, highlighting the impact of violence on their daily existence. Central to the narrative is the author's two-year engagement with a group of women human rights activists, known as the Valkai group. They operate informally to assist families affected by violence, fostering trust amidst chaos. Their unique approach intertwines activism with the complexities of everyday life, navigating social tensions without seeking formal recognition.
