After moving to Chicago, he becomes involved with a street gang but is rescued by the reappearance of his father. Tavang transforms his life, graduating from high school and Northwestern University, joining the Peace Corps in Laos, and ultimately earning a law degree from the University of Chicago. He then embarks on a successful career as a lawyer and politician.
