Anna from Hay

Determined to find her father, a young girl named Anna escapes her foster home and marries for security in a harsh steel-making town. Unhappy with her new life, she embraces her feminist beliefs and joins the suffragette movement in London, where her activism leads to arrest and brutal treatment in prison. After a series of tumultuous events, including a near-rape and subsequent blacklisting, she is saved from despair by a friend who encourages her to return to her roots in Wales, setting the stage for her ongoing struggle for identity and independence.
