More about the book
Set in 1929 during Prohibition, the story follows Ruben and Jeddy, who discover a dead body on the shore of their Rhode Island town, suspecting a connection to liquor smuggling. They, along with Jeddy's determined sister, Marina, become entangled in a dangerous rivalry between bootlegging gangs, who believe they have taken something vital from the deceased. As Ruben encounters the fearless captain of the notorious smuggling vessel, the Black Duck, he finds himself embroiled in a perilous conflict with rival gangs.
