Clara Louise Burnham was a prolific American novelist known for her diverse works, starting with her successful debut, No Gentlemen, in 1881. Her literary contributions include titles such as A Sane Lunatic and The Mistress of Beech Knoll. Additionally, she collaborated with her father, George Frederick Root, on several cantatas. Burnham's influence extended to film, with her 1903 novel Jewel inspiring the 1923 movie A Chapter in Her Life. She spent her final years in Maine, where she passed away in 1927.
