His unique scientific background infused his works with a sense of plausibility, enabling him to challenge societal norms, particularly regarding women's rights. Despite a brief career, he produced numerous bestsellers. He passed away before completing his novel, Hilda Wade, but dictated its final episode to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, which was published posthumously.
