More about the book
The book explores the introduction of domestic gasifier stoves in Kenya as a solution to challenges faced by smallholder farmers, such as diminishing fuel sources and soil degradation. It highlights the benefits of cleaner combustion, which reduces fuel consumption and harmful emissions compared to traditional cooking methods. The char produced can be used for cooking or as a soil amendment, promoting carbon sequestration. Using Life Cycle Assessment, the study demonstrates that both charcoal and biochar systems significantly outperform traditional practices in terms of climate impact, soil health, and emissions.
