The Mask, is an unconventional autobiography that reads more like a novel. It begins with a reading from a psychic that becomes the catalyst for writing and revealing a story, which weaves through a stolen childhood, the crumbling of a marriage, a healing journey that, in turn, leads into past lives, future lives, and touches on the mystical and magical from which most of us disconnect in childhood. Sela-Smith's story is itself a mask for a deeper story of the masks all of us wear to feel safe, to be accepted, or to find love; far too often, we come to believe that we are the mask that we wear.
