He enlists the aid of an undercover French organization, the Noir, to detect who else has the mutant or is working on a vaccine. Three of the Noir's agents work feverishly to locate the mutant and vaccine before they fall into the hands of powerful individuals intent on blackmailing the world. Moving against a wealthy, sophisticated background, the Noir's agents become involved in multiple murders and their own shadowy past.
