Attack transports U.S.S. President Hayes PA-39 and her sister ships President Adams and President Jackson, for a total of nineteen attack transports with twelve to fifteen hundred U.S. Marines aboard each ship, made the first offensive in the Pacific in WWII. Our journey began August 7-8-9 1942. Making initial landings on Guadalcanal, Talagi, Russels, Rendova, and Boganville Islands in the Soloman Island chain in the west and southwest Pacific Ocean. By recapturing these islands the Japanese military was halted from any further advance.
