When William Wilberforce Taylor, fifty-something, Cambridge University educated, with a mountain-high IQ and clueless, meets Franklin Richardson, sixteen and unaware of just how sharp-minded he can be but a much-bullied runaway, it should have been chalk meets cheese, dog meets cat – or more appropriately, white meets black, since those are their skin colours. The latter, at least, is true – but they share a common issue as they both have very serious problems in their lives. Fuelled by a mutual lack of trust but knowing the other can assist them, they reluctantly team up – and run.
