A three-day blizzard immobilizes the town of Shamrock in northeastern Georgia and a wealthy business man is found murdered in his hunting cabin. Suspicion falls on the brother of local attorney Shauna O'Fallon Salerno, eight months pregnant, who undertakes the task of vindicating the accused, Joe Culhane. Shauna has the support of her family, often referred to as the "Fighting O'Fallons," in an effort to free Joe although there is no shortage of other suspects. In the winding course of the investigation we learn more about the rural Irish-American town and its cast of colorful characters.
