Heir to a sea captain's fortune, young Bush has the means to make his search, but anti-free black laws force him to take a circuitous albeit adventurous route. Believing the wilderness best suits his needs, George settles in East Tennessee. A sharpshooter, he musters into the militia "of the white male citizen," fights in the Battle of New Orleans. Handsome, virile, he is enticed by an exotic beauty of Rampart Street and loses himself for a time in passion. Dubious maneuvers and a devastating court trial to save his stolen friend inflame his unremitting rage. American Odyssey, Book Two, soon to be released, continues the journey of George Bush. He escapes for a time into the fur country wilderness of Northern Mexico. There, George Bush hones his strength and wisdom to challenge the horrors inflicted by anti-black codes as his odyssey takes him across America to the Pacific.
