More about the book
Born in 1915, Cira was a perfectly healthy, hearing baby. At a year and a half old, she suffered a severe throat infection, the treatment for which cut away glands in her throat and severed her inner ears. She was not expected to live more than a few days. Remarkably, she survived, but was rendered deaf. Ninety years later, she recounts her life to her granddaughter through Sign Language, and reveals a remarkable story of survival, strength and love.
