More about the book

This book discusses the slate of Republican, Democrat, Reform, Green Party, and Libertarian candidates that ran for the presidency in 2000. Included are Dan Quayle, Elizabeth Dole, Bob Smith, Gary Bauer, Steve Forbes, Orrin Hatch, Allen Keyes, John McCain, George W. Bush, Jr., Ross Perot, Jesse Ventura, Donald Trump, Pat Buchanan, Ralph Nader, Harry Browne, Warren Beatty, Bill Bradley, and Albert Gore. The national conventions for the four "main" parties and election of their respective standard bearers are described at length followed by detailed descriptions of the main campaigns. Vast attention is devoted to the messy election in Florida replete with Florida Supreme Court decisions, appeals, chads, recounts, and final adjudication in "unequal protection" and "lack of uniform standards" by the U. S. Supreme Court. Swearing in of the new president, inaugural ball celebrations, initial presidential appointments, and actions along with Gore's graceful departure and Clinton's lingering "hate to leave the limelight" departure are described fully. The book concludes with a brief list of "sensitive" political topics the major candidates conveniently avoided during campaigning.
