Thomas Hodgkin was a prominent British physician and historian who devoted much of his life to the abolitionist cause. In this book, Hodgkin defends the American Colonization Society, an organization dedicated to the resettlement of freed slaves in Africa, against charges of racism and imperialism. Hodgkin also provides an account of the British African Colonization Society, which sought to achieve similar ends in West Africa.
