More about the book

This important book is a first person, eye witness account of the Boer War from the Boer point of view. The author worked his way up from a defending Burgher to Commando and up through the ranks to "Vechtgeneraal," having participated in all phases of the Boer war from the start to final surrender. He kept a journal and did research to produce this document, and includes details of the famous battles of Poplar Grove, Jameson's Raid, Nicholson's Nek, and more. This was probably the first true guerilla war. Involved English accounts of this war are common; Boer accounts are rare.Christian Rudolph De Wet was a Boer General (during the Boer War of 1899?1902) who became a talented guerrilla leader with numerous successes against the British Army. A dedicated Nationalist, he never reconciled to the British Victory.
