This is a story of my maternal family line, from my great-grandparents, who were born in the middle of the 19th century, through the generations, to a few paragraphs about my granddaughters who were born more than150 years later. Each generation is represented by one of the daughters and it is through her eyes, ears and thoughts we discover the lives of members of her family. The anecdotes are all fact-based, a lot of the conversations are obviously not verbatim, but some are pretty close, and certainly reflect the thoughts of my predecessors. I have written this tale primarily for my grandchildren because I think it is important, or at least interesting, for them to get to know their heritage. If, however, you are not one of my relations but are interested in how an ordinary family from rural Dorset evolved, please, be my guest ... I hope you enjoy our story.
