More about the book
The European Lifelong Guidance Policy Network (ELGPN) aims to support EU Member States and eligible neighboring countries in enhancing cooperation on lifelong guidance in education and employment. Established in 2007, the Network promotes collaboration and system development to implement priorities outlined in the EU 2020 strategies and Resolutions on Lifelong Guidance (2004; 2008). The initiative assists policymakers in evaluating the current provision of lifelong guidance, identifying issues needing attention, and addressing shortcomings by leveraging practical experiences from other European countries. Lifelong guidance encompasses activities that help individuals make informed decisions regarding education, vocational training, and career management throughout their lives. The policy tool focuses on four key themes from the EU resolutions: skills for career management, accessibility of services including the recognition of prior experiential learning (APEL), mechanisms for cooperation and coordination in policy development, and ensuring quality and evidence for policymaking. The ELGPN represents significant progress in supporting national lifelong guidance policies across Europe, currently comprising 29 member countries and 2 observer countries. Participating nations appoint representatives from both governmental and non-governmental organizations, fostering a new form of open coordination method within the EU.
