For three decades, Manolo Blahnik_s shoes have held the fashion world spellbound. His sense of the theatrical wedded to the finest materials and superlative craftsmanship inspire fanatical devotion. Diane Von Furstenberg has more than 80 pairs; Paloma Picasso has been fan since the age of 14; and Sarah Jessica Parker, Anna Piaggi and Kate Moss, to name a few, are fellow addicts. Here, collected together for the first time, are over one hundred and twenty exquisite drawings that Blahnik makes at the outset of the design process. These sketches are executed with such exuberance and deftness that they have become as sought-after as the shoes themselves (they often fetch up to £10,000 at charity auctions). Inimitable in style, these drawings, beautifully reproduced in this book with special inks, vividly convey Blahnik_s unique vision.

"When the Roberts family's favorite priest started inviting himself to dine at their dinner table weekly, they were delighted to oblige. Then, when the priest started inviting their teenaged son, Michael, on day trips, they were even more pleased to see their son developing a close friendship with their beloved priest. What the family did not know was that the priest was grooming Robert for what would become years on ongoing sexual abuse. In Behind Sacred Walls, Michael describes how he fell under the control of the priest, who abused him verbally, emotionally, and sexually. It was, the priest told him, God's will that teenager satisfy the priests human needs, and the priest used God and his Michael's parents as psychological weapons to prevent the teen from telling his parents. Even though he was riddled with shame and guilt, Michael saw no way out of the continuing abuse. And most of all, he feared the pain it would cause his parents if they found out. In the end, Roberts tells how he was eventually able to extricate himself from the abusive relationship with the priest. He also relates the years of red tape he encountered in the Catholic Church while seeking justice"--

Setting out from an unapologetic Marxist perspective, The Long Depression argues that the global economy remains in the throes of a depression. Making the case that the profitability of capital is too low, and the debt built up before the Great Recession too high, leading radical economist Michael Roberts persuasively presents his case that this depression will persist until the profitability of capital is restored through yet another slump.

Michael Roberts' rich view of Sicily--its people, traditions, and landscape--permeates his photographic work far beyond his well-known work in the fashion world. Spanning two decades, Shot in Sicily traces Roberts' shifting vision of a sensual and ambiguous country. With an occasional nod to Baron Wilhelm von Gloeden's late nineteenth-century images of the Sicilian town of Taormina, and the films of Visconti and Bolognini, Roberts' sense of Sicily moves beyond conventional and touristic aesthetic categories. His camera captures the beauty of youth, crumbling temples, traditional Easter parades and the theater of daily life, and genuinely recreates the allure of Sicily. This monograph is designed by Roberts and features an epilogue/homage by designer Manolo Blahnik.
