Balys Sruoga Book order
February 2, 1896 – October 16, 1947
Balys Sruoga was a Lithuanian poet, playwright, and literary theorist whose work is deeply rooted in the experiences of the 20th century. He captured his experiences as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps in his most renowned novel, The Forest of Gods. Through irony and humor, Sruoga exposes the absurdity and cruelty of the human condition, revealing both torturers and victims as flawed individuals far removed from the propaganda of their leaders. His writing is characterized by a sharp insight into human nature and an ability to find dignity even in the darkest of times.
