As the representative of a younger generation of painters, Zurich-based artist David Chieppo deals almost exclusively with figuration, and experiments with bringing it to life in material form. His work fascinates thanks to the divergence between complex meaning and immediate impact. In an apparently naive, often direct way, Chieppo outlines human relationships and, at the same time, reflects social and political themes. Many of his works demand a second glance, which brings what is hidden and implied to the surface. After an initial, sensual experience, which is reinforced by the impasto colors applied and the broad brushwork, it is only at the second glance that the thematic and emotional complexity of his works comes to light. The richly illustrated catalogue is based on the exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Solothurn and gives a comprehensive overview of Chieppo's artistic creations from the past six years.English and German text.

The solo exhibition by painter and graphic artist Susan Hodel (b. 1962) in the Kunstmuseum Solothurn concentrates attention on the basis of her painting, on the canvas and its priming coat. Associated with this is the principle questioning of the picture, of its texture, effect and function. Although the appearance of the works is minimalistic, the process of their creation is a very lengthy one. As formal paradigms, wickerwork and folding are noticeable. This is why the works make an impact, both through their colorfulness and through their structure. Susan Hodel's publication embraces above all works from the years 2008 to 2012, but also makes reference to a number of earlier works. 0Exhibition: Kunstmuseum Solothurn, Switzerland (23.2.-12.5.2013).
