Almost exactly 100 years ago, in December 1920, the first graphic portfolio of the Bauhaus in Weimar was published under the title "Twelve Woodcuts by Lyonel Feininger." The exhibition “Becoming Feininger” includes examples of these prints from the collection of the Kunstmuseum Moritzburg in Halle (Saale). The images offer a representative cross section of the artist’s brilliant work in woodcut printing, a medium he had been engaged with since 1918. There are extraordinary examples of this work in the collection of Dr. Hermann Klumpp. These two collections of Feininger’s work, now under the capable management of the Kulturstiftung Sachsen-Anhalt, allow us to present a grand tour of the artist’s oeuvre on the occasion of his 150th birthday. Our ability to present the artist’s beginnings so vividly is thanks to a third collection, that of Armin Rühl. Uniting early work from the 1890s up until the beginning of the twentieth century, this collection includes unique drawings and gouaches that attest to the intelligence and ­humour that made Feininger’s magazine cartoons so exceptional.

Katalog zur gleichnamigen Ausstellung. Vor 800 Jahren, am 2. Mai 1219, starb einer der bedeutendsten Herr scher von Armenien: König Levon I. (1150–1219). 1187 übernahm er als Levon II. die Regierung des bis dato nur regional agierenden armeni schen Fürstentums im südostanatolischen Kilikien – zur Zeit einer tiefen Krise der Kreuzfahrerstaaten, die in Folge der Niederlage in der Schlacht bei Hattin (4. Juli 1187) vor ihrer völligen Auslöschung standen. Levons Fürstentum wurde Refugium für unzählige Flüchtlinge und wichtiger Partner für die Kreuzzugsplanungen von Päpsten, Kaisern und Königen. Bald schon agierte Levon als „global player“, der mit den Päps ten über Fragen der Kirchenunion und mit Kaiser Friedrich I. Barbarossa über eine Statuserhöhung zum König verhandelte. 1198 wurde er als Levon I. Regent eines ersten geeinten armenischen Königreiches. Die Ausstellung verdeutlicht den Kulturtransfer zwischen West und Ost, den heutigen Staaten Deutschland und Armenien, durch die Über nahme von Herrschaftsikonografie und Repräsentationszeremonien. Hierbei spielt die mittelalterliche Königslandschaft im Gebiet des heuti gen Sachsen‑Anhalt eine zentrale Rolle. Mitteldeutsche Brakteaten sind erstrangige romanische Kleinkunstwerke, die wie keine anderen Werke detaillierte Bildinformationen überliefert haben und zugleich die Mo netarisierung und Etablierung einer Finanzverwaltung im Staatswesen nachvollziehbar machen.

Ronnie and Ahli have been raised to do the unthinkable in order to survive.
