Vyvolal velkou pozornost v NDR a jistě zaujme i českého čtenáře jak svou hlavní dějovou osnovou, milostným příběhem studentky a rybáře, zasazeným do nevšední přírodní scenérie aživota ostrova Lännekenu, tak nevtíravým uplatněním soudobé problematiky, zobrazením bojů rybářů o nové formy družstevního hospodaření, jež jsou tu kulisou a jinde zase osobitým dramatickým činitelem. Podle románu natočila DEFA v roce 1964 film se stejným titulem.
