Franca Rame

    July 18, 1929 – May 29, 2013

Franca Rame was an Italian theatre actress, playwright, and political activist who used the stage as a platform for social and political commentary. She crafted distinctly feminist works, often in the form of stage monologues, fearlessly exploring controversial themes. Following her abduction and rape in 1973, she returned to the stage with new anti-fascist monologues, demonstrating her indomitable spirit and commitment to her art despite trauma. Her collaboration with her husband, Dario Fo, was pivotal in shaping modern Italian political theatre.
