Else Wenz-Vietor

Else Wenz-Viëtor was one of the most famous and prolific children's book illustrators in Germany during the 1920s and 1930s. As one of the first freelance illustrators, Wenz-Viëtor was driven to produce a high volume of agreeable work. Today, her artistic contributions are viewed with reservation, as her illustrations were well-received by the National Socialists, and she also led the local National Socialist women's group from 1933 onward. Her work thus represents a complex reflection of the era in which she created.
