Justus von Liebig was a German chemist who made significant contributions to agricultural and biological chemistry, and the organization of organic chemistry. As a professor, he introduced modern laboratory-oriented teaching methods, earning him recognition as one of history's greatest chemistry educators. His discovery of nitrogen as an essential plant nutrient and his formulation of the Law of the Minimum, which detailed the impact of individual nutrients on crops, established him as the "father of the fertilizer industry." He also pioneered the development of a manufacturing process for beef extracts.
