Walter Palmer Thompson

Walter Henry Thompson served as Winston Churchill's bodyguard for 18 years, from 1921 to 1945. During this time, Thompson faced numerous threats, ranging from Nazi agents to terrorist groups, and is credited with saving Churchill's life on approximately twenty occasions. The demands of his service were so great that Thompson experienced a breakdown but always returned to his duties. Despite nearly completing extensive memoirs, he was prohibited from publishing them after the war to protect his police pension, with only an abridged version seeing publication.
