Paul Lacroix

Paul Lacroix, best known by his pseudonyms P.L. Jacob or Le Bibliophile Jacob, was a prolific French author and journalist with a profound interest in libraries and books. His extensive body of work spans over twenty historical romances, alongside significant historical studies on figures like Napoleon III and Czar Nicholas I of Russia. He co-authored a monumental five-volume work examining the manners, customs, and dress of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, a standard reference for the period. Lacroix also delved into bibliographical studies and the history of culture, with a substantial work on the history of prostitution often attributed to him. His passion for the arts was further expressed through his editorship of the periodical Revue universelle des arts.
