Charles de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu

    January 18, 1689 – February 10, 1755

Montesquieu was an Enlightenment social commentator and political thinker whose articulation of the theory of separation of powers fundamentally shaped modern governance. His ideas regarding the distinct roles of legislative, executive, and judicial branches are now foundational principles, reflected in constitutions worldwide. He also played a significant role in popularizing the terms 'feudalism' and 'Byzantine Empire.' His insightful analyses continue to influence discussions on political structures and societal organization.
