This book contains the refereed proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Software Business (ICSOB) held in Potsdam, Germany, in June 2013. The theme of the event was „From Physical Products to Software Services and Solutions.“ The 15 full papers, seven short papers, and six doctoral symposium papers accepted for ICSOB were selected from 44 submissions and are organized in sections on: software business models and business process modeling; IT markets and software industry; IT within organizations; software product management; cloud computing; entrepreneurship and startup companies; software platforms and software ecosystems; and doctoral symposium.

IT Business Alignment als strategische Managementaufgabe thematisiert die stringente Ausrichtung der Informationstechnologie an den Zielen eines Unternehmens. Mit dem Ende des E-Business-Hype und der zwingend erforderlichen Ausgaben für die Jahr-2000-Umstellung und die Euroeinführung kürzten viele Unternehmen ihre IT-Budgets. Der Erfolg der IT wurde nahezu ausschließlich unter Kostenaspekten beurteilt. Dem „eBusiness-Barometer 2006/2007“ zufolge bewerten Unternehmen ihre E-Business-Aktivitäten jedoch wieder als einen entscheidenden Faktor für gegenwärtige und zukünftige Wettbewerbsfähigkeit. Indes fehlt in vielen Unternehmen die Ausrichtung dieser Aktivitäten an der Unternehmensstrategie. Dieser an der Unternehmenspraxis orientierte Sammelband thematisiert die Herausforderung, einerseits die Kosten für IT im Griff zu halten und andererseits das Potenzial der IT im Wettbewerb voll zu nutzen. Software development is becoming more and more complex and dynamic. The strength of traditional Requirements Engi-neering methods lies in formalization of existing user require-ments. However, if - such as in Internet applications, for exam-ple - requirements and/or technical solutions are unclear, a flexible, rapid process is required that integrates know-how of users and developers and focuses on the essential. Quality Function Deployment (QFD) meets these requirements. QFD is aimed at a software that presents not all technically possible characteristics but only those that are important for success. Requirements Engineering with QFD is goal-oriented, rapid, flexible and customer-oriented. The book includes a guide to the method and shows several practical examples from SAP AG and other companies.
