This thesis adresses the design and fabrication of MEMS Fabry-Pérot interferometers for applications as tunable optical filters which can be operated over a broad spectral range. To that end, silicon carbonitride is introduced as a new MEMS material which enables fabrication of large-area released membrane Bragg mirrors by vapour HF etching. Additionally, a new MEMS design with two released membrane mirrors is proposed in order to circumvent the limitation of its tuning range by pull-in found in standard MEMS FPIs. Proof-of-principle devices are fabricated with application-relevant diameters up to 5 mm. Despite their large diameter, the devices exhibit an excellent parallelism between the membrane mirrors after the release with tilt deviations being only in the nanometer range. When actuated by DC voltages, the filters show an unprecedented spectral working range from 1.13 µm to 1.7 µm.

The defeat of the Third Reich is best told through the authentic voices of those who fought on the front line. This collection includes the stories of German soldiers fighting the Red Army on the Eastern Front. It includes those of Horst Messer, who served on the last East Prussian panzer tank but was captured and spent four years in Russian captivity at Riga; Hans Obermeier, who recounts service with Eastern Front training units, capture on the Czech front, and escape from Siberia; and an anonymous Wehrmacht soldier in Slovakia given orders to execute Russian prisoners.

Throughput in manual order picking systems with narrow aisles suffers from congestion as pickers cannot pass each other. Only few models incorporate congestion but they have very strict assumptions. In this work, queueing theory is used to analyze systems with traversal routing as well as different storage policies. The models are able to estimate throughput for many alternative designs in a relatively short amount of time. New guidelines for narrow-aisle order picking systems are introduced.
