Sprachwissenschaft und Philologie

More about the book

Jacob Wackernagel, author of the "Vorlesungen über Syntax," is recognized as a leading figure in Indogermanistik and one of the most significant scholars from Basel in the 20th century. The 50th anniversary of his death in 1988 prompted the Indogermanische Gesellschaft to hold a colloquium in Basel. The conference program was developed by representatives from Classical Philology in Basel, collaborating with Indogermanistic colleagues from various universities. The proceedings feature contributions from notable scholars, including Joseph Delz and Georg Peter Landmann reflecting on Wackernagel, Bernfried Schlerath discussing his impact on Indogermanic linguistics, and Robert S. P. Beekes analyzing Wackernagel’s explanation of the lengthened grade. Other contributions include Oswald Panagl's contemporary perspective on Wackernagel’s lectures, Thomas Krisch’s insights on Wackernagel’s Law, and Heinrich Hettrich’s examination of case usage. George E. Dunkel explores Wackernagel's work on Indogermanic particles, while Wolfram Euler addresses past tenses in older Indogermanic languages. Further topics include José-Luis Garcia-Ramon's analysis of proportional analogy in Greek morphology, Eva Tichy's discussion on the Homeric dual, and C. J. Ruijgh’s observations on enclitics in Homer according to Wackernagel's law.
