More about the book

The present monograph deals with the main features of the development and specialization of the tissues of wood and bark. It attempts to provide a state of the art synthesis of information available on the development of cambial tissues, to conduct future research at the cellular and subcellular level. Twelve chapters provide synoptic reviews of different aspects on the structure, development, function and anatomy of the Meristem and Inner and Outer derivatives of the cambium. Although readers are expected to have basic knowledge of the role of the cambium, most chapters provide sufficient background information to grasp the discussed topic without consulting further references and to understand where current research is headed. Conclusions at the end of each chapter help the reader to develop a thorough understanding of the problems at issue. The book, which has many instructive figures and high-quality photographs, equally caters to the interests of students and professionals in structural, functional and evolutionary botany, forestry and wood science.
